Research | There are great challenges in sorting out the history of convicts with similar names. This man was sometimes known as John. Hence the challenge of resolving facts between him and John Ryder, Parkhurst Lad who arrived on the Ameer in 1849. We know this this man's father was John Ryder from his Millbank Prison register & the death registration of Anthony Ryder who died in Claremont in 1911 listed John Ryder & Mary Neagle as his parents. Death certificates are unreliable but it does appear to be consistent.
The John Ryder who died at Mogumber in 1912 with parents listed as William Ryder & Mary Roger may be the John Ryder who came out on the Ameer in 1849. |
